The Acropolis of Athens

March 2015 – Thiseio, Athens

Photo taken by Vasiliki Papacharalambous

Put the best of science, art and philosophy together in one creation and you have the definitive monument of human civilisation.
UNESCO calls it the symbol of World Heritage. The world calls it the Athenian Acropolis.
The photo was captured at Thiseio where the metro station is, a neighborhood in downtown Athens; its name derives from the Temple of Hephasteus, also known as Τhiseio, as it was, in earlier times, considered a temple of Thesues.
Athens is a memorable place for me, attached with sweet and special memories of my youth.
It’s the place where I grew up and matured as a person. It’s the place where I have successfully completed my studies in Economic at AUEB, the leading economic and business university in Greece, ranked in the 15th place among 500 European universities based on a research carried out by the german magazine Der Spiegel and in the 76th place worldwide in the field of economics according to the Journal of Econometric Theory.

Sedona

August 2014 – Sedona, Arizona

Sedona’s a stunner, but it’s intensely spiritual as well – some even say sacred. Nestled amid striking red sandstone formations, Sedona attracts spiritual seekers, artists and healers, as well as day-trippers from Phoenix trying to escape the oppressive heat. Many New Age types believe that this area is the center of vortexes that radiate the Earth’s power, and Sedona’s combination of scenic beauty and mysticism draws throngs of tourists year-round.

Deira Area

January 2015 – Deira area, Dubai

Following up on my last picture from Gold Spice Souk, the Deira area in Dubai gives you the chance to experience the rich history and heritage of this ancient city by visiting the Gold and Spice Souq. You may then visit the Textile Souq by riding an abra, a traditional wooden boat used to cross the Dubai Creek, and enjoy a truly authentic local experience.

This is definitely a must-go attraction of Dubai since it gives you a different experience far from the glitz and glamour of the new Dubai. If you can manage to dodge the maze of touts offering fake designer watches and bags, you can actually discover some good deals and bargains.
