Living color

Next stop Canyon Village for lunch time but even then … we kept discovering more of the Yellowstone Park beauties and mysteries. Shimmering in this hot spring is a living palette of color. Billions of heat-loving microorganisms called ‘thermophiles’ carpet the spring in conditions that are lethal to humans. Some scientists study these remarkable thermophiles and their hot spring habitats to determine whether other worlds beyond Earth might support life.
